Dental Onlays & Inlays

When a section of your tooth becomes decayed, but its overall strength and structure is still sound enough to function without a crown, onlays and inlays can be easily applied reinforce the tooth and improve its appearance.

Onlays and inlays are basically the same in that they are small prosthetics used to replace sections of removed tooth. The difference lies in the location of their placement - if the missing piece of tooth is within its cusps, it's referred to as an 'inlay.' If the missing section of tooth covers the entire chewing surface, or is located between one or more of the tooth cusps, it is referred to as an 'onlay.'

The creation and placement of onlays and inlays usually takes two trips to our Old Town Alexandria, Virginia office. During your first visit, we can examine your tooth and remove the decayed material before taking a cast. Then, between visits, the dental laboratory will custom design and color your onlay or inlay before it is adhered to your tooth

Tooth filling procedures are a dime a dozen in Virginia, but few dental experts have the expertise to get it right in one sitting.

It is this emphasis on quality and aesthetic that defines the dental practice of Alexandria Art of Dentistry . Our dental restoration services have helped a wide pool of clients fight against tooth decay and reclaim their long-lost smile!

"I had issues with my tooth at the back for a long time. The filling in this tooth wasn't done properly because the food was getting stuck every time when I was eating. I was complaining to my old dentist for years, she kept telling me she is going to fix it. But nothing was fixed. Then a friend recommended Dr. Lynch's office. I got scheduled pretty fast, and, OMG, one visit and it was fixed.

Dr. Lynch showed me the X-ray and actually the old filling was sticking out from the tooth and it was between the teeth so that's why food was getting stuck. I had no idea about it.  I was very happy how the appointment went. I was informed about the treatment details. I even got a short massage from the assistant while Dr. Lynch was numbing me. I definitely recommend Dr. Lynch because he cares".
